The Marikamba Collection — Chapter 02

Temple Chariots

The temple chariot is the most demanding form in our craft — architecture, sculpture and engineering in a single moving structure.

A ratha must carry a deity, survive a procession, and honour a shastra-defined proportion system that leaves no room for approximation. Our chariots are built tier upon tier — wheels, base, sanctum, shikhara — each layer carved and dry-fitted in the atelier before it ever reaches the temple.

Alongside full-scale festival chariots, we craft miniature rathas for homes and institutions, built to the same vocabulary of form. It is in these pieces that four decades of sculpturing legacy are most visible.
