The Marikamba Collection — Chapter 03

Wooden Door Carving

In Karnataka, a doorway is never just an entrance. It is the face a home shows the world, and the frame through which a family passes every day.

We carve doors for temples and homes in solid seasoned timber — panel doors, carved frames, torana-topped entrances and lattice shutters. Motifs are drawn from temple vocabulary: lotus medallions, creepers, yali brackets and deity panels, composed to suit the building rather than copied onto it.

Each commission is drafted, carved and finished by hand in Sirsi, then installed with the same care — because a carved door only fulfils its promise when it sits perfectly in its frame.
